Artists
Flatline
Flatline consists of lead singer/guitarist Jordan
Suleiman, his brother multi-instrumentalist Mussadique (Dique),
and co-founder of the band Rauf Fadzilla. These guys write quirky and
intelligent words then put them
to an eclectic mix of musical influences from jazz to rock.
The band is working to release an EP by the end of 2003 under FYI Records,
so catch them before they go all famous on us.
Soma
The band was formed at the end of 2001, and the
members started working on some songs,
and finally with the help of their friend and producer Young, managed
to release an EP called Sad & Happy Songs.
Soma consists of Kit (guitar and vocals), Tony (guitar), Ker Liang or
Turtle as we prefer to call him (bass),
and "The Director" (drums).
Their influences are various, from super bands like U2 and the Smashing
Pumpkins to some Brit-pop and
80's sounds to the occasional pop tune and dance music. Lyrical, they
tend towards the abstract and surreal.
In the words of the band -
"Floating through thoughts of divinity and the fragile human state,
the double-headed snake called love,
and a satirical way of looking at the myths of truth, is what it's about.
The aim and goal of the band is simple: to take it as far as it can go."
Shelley
Leong
Shelley
is an up and coming singer-songwriter who has just returned from Australia
after a seven year stint.
While in Sydney, this accountant/associate lecturer-turned-musician honed
her musical skills through
performance with college bands, playing piano, singing jazz and finally
picked up the guitar.
She
was recently awarded the JVC Sales & Service Malaysia Award for her
song-writing capabilities
and expressive singing at the MTV/JVC Sound Education Competition.
She
is at present pursuing her music degree with ICOM (International College
of Music) and
is in the midst of recording an independent album. She also gigs regularly
at various venues around KL,
leads a young jazz band called Blue Odyssey and is collaborating as the
new singer and
co-writer for an originals band, Charlotte Dreams.

Eugene
Ng
Eugene
came to the notice of the general public when he performed at Rabbit's
'World Peace Concert' in
Johore in aid of Mercy Malaysia, the charity that's been sending aid and
volunteers to Afghanistan.
He regularly plays at the Halo Music Cafe on Petaling Street; writes and
sings in Mandarin but sounds
like John Mayer with a bit of R&B thrown in. Eugene will be the first
featured artist to perform
at the Acoustic Jam in a language other than English or Malay. His voice
and vocal control are excellent
and his guitar accompaniments are extremely professional, and also he
has a very charming and
humble manner so audiences even
if not Chinese speaking are usually won over from the beginning.
Meor
Yusoff
Meor
Yusoff Azzidin Meor Hassan has been writing songs since 1984 and to date
has produced approximately 300 songs.
He writes in malay but his work is heavily influenced by Bob Dylan, Nick
Drake, Iwan Fals and many other Western artists. He mostly plays laid
back yet intriguing folk music which normally dwelves around spiritual
issues such as the relationship between mind and soul. Listeners have
commented that his work is sometimes profoundly beautiful yet disturbingly
provocative. He has produced 2 albums to date and is currently working
on his third.
His first album was produced by M.Nasir and the subsequent one by himself
using all his own resources.
In this show he will be backed by a group of musicians including Omar
Jaafar on flamenco guitar,
a percussionist and a didgeridou player.
