Acoustic
Jam is an attempt to create a musical environment similar to acoustic
clubs in UK
where solo artistes and duets get up to play their own original material,
accompanying with usually an acoustic guitar or other unamplified instrument.
Sometimes the programme of performers is arranged in advance,
sometimes the first part of the evening is given over to performers
who just turn up and say they want to play, so they get to play two songs
or maybe three depending on how many turn up on the night.
So
if you have your own songs and want to perform then come early,
about 8.00 p.m. in order to book a spot.
If the evening is a success we may put on more such evenings
with different artists as featured performers.
One
thing we have to say: The room is small and there is not room for more
than two people on stage.
The sound system is quite small too. So we regret that it is not possible
for whole bands
to perform electric style. There are other opportunites for bands to perform.
The
Commonwealth Club is open to non-members;
there will be a charge of RM20 entrance fee to cover costs.
(if you perform the charge is half-price - RM10 but come early to get
on the list)
ABOUT
THE ARTISTS

KAREN NUNIS BLACKSTONE
An accomplished blues singer and painter - she has had exhibitions in
New York, California,
Japan and Kuala Lumpur. Owners of her paintings include Bob Dylan.
Now she has taken an adventurous route into alternative acoustic music
and
released a colourful album called "Give Me Sanity", which features
amongst other
Malaysian and Malaysian based musicians Julian Mokhtar, Tomaso Cecere,
and Gary Gideon.
One of the most creative and off-beat albums ever to come out of Malaysia.
It is currently being played on more than 70 radio stations throughout
the USA.
Those who have seen Karen perform live know that she can deliver with
her passionate
and impeccable vocals. This is one of her rare visits to these shores,
so don't miss her.

MARKIZA and PETER
BROWN
Peter Brown started performing in London and writing his own songs on
the 1970s.
He made three rather rough albums of his songs, but after becoming involved
in spiritual quests
and Sufism in 1980s gave up music for some years.
During this time he moved to Malaysia and started a family.
When his wife Markiza whom he had met in UK started performing as a singer/pianist
in nitespots in early 90s to supplement the family income, as Peter had
no job, he used to jam with her. They decided to call themselves PASSION
and made two albums
before retiring from music a few years ago... www.passion.lemang.com
Lately Peter has been performing his songs in London to appreciative audiences.
He has also been working on a new album, to be called "WARM".
